Step #1: Measure Up.
With your measuring tape, mark up all of your pieces of wood. Use markers to denote where you will cut each piece of wood so that each part fits together perfectly. The front and the back of the dog house will be 31 ¼” X 36” tall (at the peak) and 24” tall (at sides). The opening for the front piece is 15” high and 11” wide. The sides of the dog house are 33 ¼” wide by 23” tall. The roof (sheet galvanized steel) on each side is 23” by 38 ¼”. The floor is 30 ¼” by 33 ¼”. As you’ll see in the video below, a patio is attached to the dog house. The patio has a 28” wide by 18” deep frame made with 2” by 4”s with eight pieces of cedar for the decking. Each piece is 3 ½” wide and 18” long.
Step #2: Carefully Make Your Cuts.
Keep your hands and eyes safe. Wear a pair of protective goggles to protect your eyes from any flying debris. Also, consider wearing protective gloves to protect your hands. Open spaces are good for working on a project like this. Great places include the garage and your backyard. You don’t want any jagged pieces. After cutting your pieces to the appropriate measurements, smooth everything out with your orbital sander. You want to keep the house safe for your pet.
[Did You Know? The average dog house costs between $70 and $470. Good thing yours will last longer with the Flex Seal Family of Products!]
Step #3: Easily Drill Together.
Take your tools and drill each piece carefully together. Make sure each piece is securely fastened before moving on to the next piece. It is best to start from bottom to top. Lay down your floor foundation and gradually start to drill the sides onto the platform. Let the roof be the very last thing that your drill onto the structure with your roofing nails.
Step #4: Seal the Roof.
Pour your Flex Seal Liquid into a paint tray. (Close the Flex Seal Liquid top securely.) Dip your paint roller in the paint tray and roll Flex Seal Liquid along the entire roof. Let each coat dry for 24 to 48 hours before adding another coat. Flex Seal Liquid will keep your dog house dry and, more importantly, your dog.
[Did You Know? Flex Seal and Flex Seal Liquid serve as a liquid insulator. That means it will keep air from passing through the dog house.]
Step #5: Spray Your House.
From an 8- to 12-inch distance, spray Flex Seal Clear along the outside of the remaining part of the dog house. Just like your roof, let each coat dry for 24 to 48 hours. Flex Seal Clear dries into a rubber waterproof sealant that can last in extreme weather.
